A Mysterious Sign…

Category: Mina's Posts

Today when I was driving to school, my aproximately 5-year-old car reached 100,000 kilometers as I was passing a brick building adorned with the quote by Margret Mead; “Never doubt that a small group of committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.” It was really funny. Oh, and by the way, that car was owned by someone else before my family traded our car for it. Just because that car is well traveled does not mean I use it more frequently than necessary.

B-day

Category: Mina's Posts

Today is my birthday. My party was two days ago on the 24th. We had a walk in a forest at twilight and the moon was gigantic, especially through binoculars. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any beavers, but we saw lots of ducks.

The Letter Again

Later today I will mail the letter I wrote. I’ve gotten at least four teachers to sign it plus about twenty students and the principal. Hopefully it will make a difference!

Rats!

Category: Mina's Posts

The kids in my class who wanted to buy the sunset and ocean coloured bracelets I made would not buy them for $3 each so I lowered the price to $2. Today i also brought my pet rats to school, and they raised quite a bit of excitement. They where both very sleepy and my teacher set up a table where two students could sit and watch them. Even though the rats were sleeping most of the time the table was full almost all day.

More Junk

Category: Mina's Posts

Today I sold several more items I made with junk, two bracelets and a candle holder were requested by two of my classmates. So far I’ve made $3.50 and tomorrow I’ll get more than six dollars for the requested things.

School Project

Category: Mina's Posts

I suggested that my class makes things out of junk and then sells them as a fundraiser for sustainability to my teacher about a week ago. Today I brought in lots of examples of what can be made out of junk, including a snake made of bottle caps, a picture frame made with plastic packaging, corrugated cardboard and wallpaper samples, and more than 80 rolled paper beads made from magazines and brochures. I think this fundraiser will work very well.

Biomass Letter

Category: Mina's Posts

At school, last Friday, I worked on writing a letter to Gordon Campbell asking for B.C. to use more biomass power. Twenty three students and teachers signed it. Hopefully I can get more signatures before I mail it.
